Welcome from the Chairmen

Yotaro Kobayashi, WG`58
Honorary Chairman
Organizing Committee
Tokyo

Dear Fellow Wharton Alumni and Alumnae Worldwide:

It is my great pleasure and honor to serve as Honorary Chairman of the Wharton Global Forum in Tokyo on May 24-25, 2013. In this capacity, I would like to extend my personal invitation to you to attend the Forum and to enjoy Tokyo during such a comfortable time of the year.

The theme of this Forum is “Vitalization,” and I must say that I find this word particularly applicable to Japan at the present time. Those of us who have lived through so much change in this country are well aware of the importance of changing the way we think and do business to respond to the challenges we face. This is a complex time, but one I feel is full of opportunity and hope for the future. Japan is committed to change and we fully expect to share our newly expressed vitality with hundreds of Wharton alumni from around the world next May.

Wharton has played an important role in my life. I urge you to take advantage of the many ways that you as a Wharton alumnus or alumna can benefit from continuing opportunities to learn from your former classmates and other graduates, your former professors and recently hired teachers, and the many speakers who will address the Forum on a wide variety of topics of interest to us all.

I look forward to welcoming you to my home town on May 24-25, 2013.

Best regards,

Yotaro Kobayashi, WG`58

Chairman
Organizing Committee

Dear Fellow Alumni and Friends of the Wharton School:

I am pleased to invite you to come to Tokyo on May 24-25, 2013 to participate in the 43rd Wharton Global Forum.

Since my entry into Wharton in 1973, I have been involved with the school for almost forty years, first as a struggling student, next as a proud alumnus, after some years as a member of the school’s Asian Executive Board, eventually as President of the Wharton Club of Japan, and now as Chairman of the upcoming Forum. This involvement has been richly rewarding to me, and I hope through this Forum that I can communicate to many of you worldwide just how valuable and interesting it is to get involved and to stay involved with Wharton.

You will note that I used the words “participate in” and not “attend” in my first sentence above. This Forum is part of the school’s Lifelong Learning Program, and what you take away from the Forum will depend to a high degree on how much you put into it. This will be an interactive Forum, and your vigorous participation is warmly welcome. This participation can begin as soon as now, and I invite you to send me your comments and suggestions at activity@sepia.ocn.ne.jp.

Tokyo is vibrant, beautiful and welcoming. Please give us a chance to show you the new Japan, which, following the theme of the Forum, is full of signs of “Vitalization”. I am confident that you will be surprised and pleased with what you find.

I look forward to welcoming you to Tokyo. In the meantime, with best wishes for continued success.

Sincerely,

Keisuke Muratsu, WG’75
